The summer is winding down, leaving a few precious weekends. When mapping out your last getaways make a trip to Grand County--a quick 90 minutes from Denver. Events are going on around the region. In August, check out The Grand County Parade of Homes, Winter Park's 19th Annual Rocky Mountain Wine, Beer & Food Festival, Featured Artist Reception, The Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre, High Country Stampede Rodeo and The Grand Lake Art Walk.
For two weekends, Aug. 13, 14 and Aug. 20, 21, The Grand County Parade of Homes opens to visitors, displaying the architectural masterpieces situated against mother natures majestic canvass. From August through September make a trip to the Grand Lake Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre. Live theater is performed Monday through Saturday in Grand Lake’s Historic Community House. Hit up the High Country Stampede Rodeo at the John Work Arena in Fraser. The action takes place every Saturday night in August (Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27), from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Cowgirls and cowboys compete in bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, ladies barrel racing, breakaway roping, pole bending, mutton busting for the little ones, and of course, bull riding. During a final adventure take a tour through Grand Lake on Aug. 20 to check out the Art Walk from 4 to 7 p.m. Art from local galleries are one display.
