Grand County

Holidays on High - December in Grand County

There is no better time to get together and celebrate family than the holidays. And there's no better place to do it than Grand County, Colorado. From tree lighting to ice skating, skiing to sleigh rides, Grand County has enough exciting family events and activities to fill up every weekend from now through the end of the year!

The winter festivities begin in Granby on December 9th with the Centennial Tree Lighting and Parade of Lights - a festive celebration of the holiday spirit and commemoration of Granby's first hundred years. Shop the Centennial Specials and share the joy as Santa lights the town with his special brand of merriment. Finally, with light heart and rosy cheeks, fill your tummy at our famous chili supper – it will warm you from the inside out! For more information, contact the Granby Chamber at 970-887-2311.

But don't leave after supper! Spend the night in Grand County and wake up to a Breakfast with Santa and Fire Engine Rides in Grand Lake on December 10th. Children delight in sharing breakfast with Santa at the Bear's Den Restaurant and then taking a trip in his "other" sleigh - a bright red fire engine! Adults can join in the fun at the Christmas Music Festival beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by candlelight caroling through town – truly an event for the entire family. For more information, contact the Grand Lake Chamber at 970-627-3372.

And if your kids just can't get enough of Santa, don't miss Christmas at the Rink, December 17th in Kremmling. With ice skating, goodie bags and a visit from Mr. Claus himself, this event promises to make every child's Christmas wish come true. Call the Kremmling Chamber at 877-573-6654 for more information.

With all the pre-holiday activities in Grand County, make sure your family has enough energy for the exciting events going on during Christmas!

Christmas Eve proves to be one of the most spectacular nights of the year at Winter Park Resort with the traditional Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade and Fireworks. Beginning with caroling around the bonfire at the base of the mountain, revelers are witness to Santa and a procession of torch-bearing skiers down Lower Hughes trail under a dazzling display of fireworks. Interdenominational church services held after the fireworks. Call 970-726-1564 for more information. Stay overnight and dine on Christmas Day atop the 10,700-foot summit of Winter Park Mountain at the Lodge at Sunspot - a truly amazing way to celebrate friends, family and the beauty of Colorado. Call 970-726-1446 for reservations.

Not done celebrating?
Ring in the New Year in Grand Lake with the unforgettable sight of "Diamonds in the Sky" - a spectacular display of fireworks and lights over the frozen waters of Grand Lake. Additional New Year's Eve celebrations throughout the county give you plenty of ways to live it up and usher in 2006!
